It's time for change. It's time for dyslexic people to rise up!

Dyslexia.

It's a term I had heard of and was aware of. Just like you, I'm sure, but the words that hit the pages of many of the documents I reviewed as an Occupational Therapist, were about delays…delays in visual perceptual or writing skills. I saw the term learning disability but honestly that was limited as well.

But never the term: dyslexia.

I have to admit I did not like the term learning disability — as it indicated an inability to learn. I knew from my personal experience that this was not true. I could learn and I found out when information was given to me in a way that fit my way of thinking and was fuelled by my passions, I could put together concepts that were new and innovative.

So overtime I found the term ‘dyslexia’ truly painted a picture of me but without the disability.

I was a visual thinker.

I could see in 3D and loved to draw and capture images with my camera.

I was a problem solver and loved working as a team - navigating how each person would work to support the child that was in front of us.

And even though I didn’t always identify as this…in many ways I was a leader (although…my fears of making mistakes held me back from this role for a long time).

Do you see these traits in your child?

The dyslexia community is on the move and I felt this strongly when watching the Global Summit from Made by Dyslexia.

They cover topics such as future workforce skills and how dyslexic people has these skills. How support is need now to change how we approach dyslexic children (and all neurodiverse kids!). They highlighted the game-changer approaches of this way of looking at the world.

IF you haven't seen it take some time to watch at least some parts of it, if not all of it. It will change how you view dyslexia and learning differences in general.

But if you are here as a parent looking for support when it comes to your child’s learning — just like the conversations at the end of the Global Summit — then we want you to know that you can gain clarity and confidence when it comes to Dyslexia and your child by joining us inside our Parent Membership Community or by purchasing our Expert Content and Live Call on Dyslexia that’s available until Oct 22nd (it ends at 4pm so you can attend the live call)

It’s time to make a change when it comes to dyslexia and it will take all of us to do this. All of us to rise up and work together. So start today by supporting YOU …so you can support your child.
